About us:
5K Ranch is a family owned and operated ranch in the Deep Creek Valley near Steamboat Springs in Northwest Colorado. With over 500 acres of pasture, our cattle are grass fed and grass finished.
At 5K Ranch we have certified Akaushi Cattle. Akaushi cattle are one of the four breeds of Waygu, famed for their superior marbling and tenderness. The term Waygu is used to refer to Japanese breeds of cattle used for beef production. The intramuscular fat (or marbling) in Akaushi meat contains and abundance of heart-healthy mono-saturated fats such as oleic acid, an amino acid commonly found in olive oil. This creates a sumptuous buttery flavor on the palate. The meat is delicious and has a dedicated following. We use rotational grazing at our ranch. It is more sustainable and improves the pasture quality. Rotational grazing mitigates greenhouse gas emissions and improves soil, plant and cattle health. Our cattle are moved frequently and now run over to their new pasture eager to have the fresh grass.
The Home Ranch produces grass finished American Wagyu beef (Red Angus crossed with Akaushi (Wagyu) cattle). The Akaushi Angus crosses allow for us to offer well marbled, delicious beef that finishes better on grass, available at a lesser cost than pure Wagyu beef. Our beef steers rotationally graze through through our ranch property in Clark, using electric fence or hard fences, and are grass fed and finished. We use horses to move and check our cattle herds, because we love the traditional ranching style, but we also are open to the new! Which is why we embrace rotational grazing and put up miles and miles of electric fence each season, and also have recently started using virtual fence technology to help us even better protect riparian areas, or keep the cows out of, or in, areas that need less or more cattle impact. We'd be happy to answer any questions you might have about our cattle operation, so e-mail beef@homeranch.com if you have anything you'd like to ask!
