Located in North Routt, midway between Steamboat and Clark, the early 20th-century farmstead at Routt Star Ranch is home to arguably the happiest chickens in the Elk River Valley. The Routt Star hens and roosters spend their days, regardless of season, dust-bathing, napping, and foraging under the century-old willows and spruce trees that shade the brook which meanders through the garden and pastures; and their evenings protected within their warm and cozy indoor coop. At Routt Star, not only do the chickens have infinite free-range to fly, zoom, dance, and move about as they wish, they actively spend their days socializing and grazing throughout the grass and compost of the farmyard, which is also home to horses, visiting cows, goats, cats, and their guardian ranch dogs, Kevin, Jack, and Beth. While not certified as organic, the rainbow assortment of Routt Star eggs are laid by hens who both benefit from and contribute to the all-natural environment and ecosystem within the farm. Their diet and water is then continuously supplemented with organic-only: layer grain crumbles, vitamins, probiotics, fruits, vegetables, and both fresh and dried insects to provide nutritionally dense farm fresh eggs with rich flavor.
